For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God.
2 Corinthians 1:12
The glory of Christ and the grace of God are so evident and so self-sufficient that we must be content to conduct ourselves to the world in simplicity and godly sincerity. This is so that the testimony we bear is not by anything we could have done to “improve” the gospel, lest we empty the cross of its power (1 Corinthians 1:17). This is also so that the faith of men will not rest in human wisdom but in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:5).
